You Lift Me Up

I had planned to sing this song at the wedding of my friends, Matt and Abby. I finished it in time to celebrate their first anniversary. Well, better late than never.

Most of my songs haven’t been written — they’ve been rewritten. I kept playing my attempts at this one for Zach and for my wife, Peggy, and, well, let’s just say it took awhile, but I finally got it to work.

I’ve been married a long time, and there is a special bond that grows between people who are not only lovers, but also friends and confidantes.  This song is about that bond.

By the way, we were fortunate to have Matt play bass on his wedding song. He performs all through the CD.
You Lift Me Up
Rick Lisak

You lift me up when I fall down,
Pick me up off the ground.
When I’m all in, and out of luck,
Oh, oh, you lift me up,
Oh, oh, you lift me up.

In the pouring rain, in the pitch-black dark,
You light me up like a lightning spark.
We drink the wine from a loving cup.
Oh, oh, you lift me up.

Oh, oh, you lift me up.

Oh, oh, you lift me higher.

Oh, oh, you lift me up.

[Bridge]

In the summer sun and the winter snow,
You lift me up, never let me go.
And oh, sweet mama, I’ll do the same for you.
Just call out my name and I’ll come runnin’ to you.

I’ll lift you up when you fall down,
Pick you up off the ground.
When you’re all in, and out of luck,
Oh, oh, I’ll lift you up.

Oh, oh, I’ll lift you up.

Oh, oh, I’ll lift you higher.

Oh, oh, I’ll lift you up.
